Donnie Munro (innate August 2 1953, Isle of Skye) is a Scottish musician, & previous lead singer of the band Runrig.
The native speaker of Scottish Gaelic, much of his operate is in this language.
He attended Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen and did a postgraduate in teaching at Moray House in Edinburgh. He 1st saw Runrig play within 1973 and was approached one month late to turn into the member of the band. He late fell out by using his bandmates across many issues, including politics; Pete Wishart later became prominent in the Scottish National Party
Munro wwhen elected as Rector of Edinburgh University in 1991, a position he held until 1994. He contested a Scottish Parliament seat of Ross, Skye and Inverness West at the 1999 election for Labour, but was discomfited by Liberal Democrat John Farquhar Munro. This necessitated going a band, which he knock off 1997, by which time it was easily known that he arranged to run election. Inside 2001, it was mischievously pointed call at a media that he got wasted the race for the title of 'number one member of Runrig to exist as elected to parliament', when Peter Wishart became a Scottish National Party MP at Westminster.
Inside 1998 Munro wwhen elected as a number one parson of the UHI Millennium Institute, a post that lasted Leash years.
Munro okay, enjoys a successful solo career, besides when working when the director of development at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, a college in Skye.
